Research Summary

My research is focused on exploring the mechanism through which MTDH/AEG-1, an RNA-binding protein, promotes resistance to cisplatin treatment in Breast, Ovarian and Endometrial cancer. Cisplatin based chemotherapy is widely used to treat cancer through creating DNA damage in cells. Resistance to cisplatin arises as a result of cells finding ways to repair their damaged DNA. Through our previous works in the lab, we have found key interactions between MTDH and DNA repair mRNAs such as FANCI. Furthermore, knocking out MTDH caused exon skipping in DNA damage repair genes mRNAs. Through my research, I intend to address ways through which MTDH can cause this phenomenon.
